The Mayor of Dunukofia Local Government Council, Chijioke C. Ozumba Esq., has successfully resolved the 20-month leadership crisis that rocked the Women Wing of the Umuezekwo Progressive Union in Umudioka, restoring lasting peace, unity, and stability to the women wing.
The prolonged dispute, which had affected the smooth running of the women wing and gradually spilled over to other aspects of community life, came to an end following the timely intervention of the Mayor, whose peace-building efforts paved the way for reconciliation and the conduct of a credible election.
The newly elected executives were officially sworn in by the Chairman of Umuezekwo Village, Sir Chika Anyadike, who also represented the President-General of Umudioka Town Union, Chief Onyechi Valentine Adinnu, during a well-attended inauguration ceremony witnessed by the Mayor and other community stakeholders.
Speaking during the ceremony, Chief Anyadike expressed profound appreciation to Mayor Ozumba for restoring harmony to the women wing and the entire Umuezekwo Village. He noted that the internal crisis had begun to affect the unity and development of the village and the Umudioka community at large, adding that the Mayor's timely intervention brought lasting peace.
In his remarks, Mayor Ozumba thanked the people of Umuezekwo for embracing peace and dialogue, describing the successful resolution of the 20-month leadership crisis as a victory for the entire community rather than for any individual or group. He urged the newly inaugurated executives to lead with humility, fairness, transparency, and a strong sense of responsibility, while calling on all women of Umuezekwo to put the past behind them and work together in the interest of peace, unity, and sustainable development. The Mayor also reaffirmed his administration's commitment to promoting peace, justice, and grassroots development across all communities in Dunukofia Local Government Area.
Also speaking, the Women Leader of the Umudioka Town Union (Women Wing), Lady Ego Edith Ezegbu, represented by Mrs Regina Okafor, commended the Mayor for his prompt and impartial intervention. She urged the newly inaugurated executives to regard their offices as a call to selfless service and to work diligently for the progress and unity of all Umuezekwo women.
The inauguration attracted an impressive turnout of both the men's and women's wings of the village, who gathered to witness the historic event and celebrate the return of peace.
In her acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairlady, Mrs Ifeoma Gloria Ezeanya, thanked members for the confidence reposed in her and pledged to lead with fairness, inclusiveness, and dedication. She assured the women that her administration would carry every member along in the pursuit of peace, development, and collective progress.
